I say this because the hero and heroine in this novel are characters that you come across and become intrigued with as you read the aforementioned series. Ashe Granger, the vampire hero in this novel has always intrigued me and I have always wanted to know what makes him tick.
Deadly Is the Kiss – Rhyannon Byrd – Google Books
When Rhyannon announced that Rush of Pleasure would be the last in the series, I wanted to cry out because Rhyannon is an author who brings scorching heat to her books with a shitload of emotion that I just love to indulge myself in. And so you can imagine my reaction when I learnt that not only Rhyannon was sort of continuing in a different line of the series and it ybrd going to be the much awaited book of Ashe Granger!
Ashe might have made it his life mission to screw through any woman that takes his fancy but ever since he meets the prickly 27 year old Juliana Sabin, Ashe has a feeling that ks days of carousing and sleeping through a long line of women were about to be over. Juliana is still paying for tne fatal mistake she made in her youth; falling in love with the wrong kind of vampire.
The guilt that plagues her for subjecting her whole family to live in the desolate compound of Wasteland is one that haunts her continuously. The last vampire that Ashe expects to run into is the one vampire whom he would like nothing better than to get horizontal with and never get up.
And through rhyanmon haze of lust and resentment that Ashe feels, he manages to identify that although Juliana might not be telling him the whole version of her side of things, she is really in danger and Ashe knows that as long as he lives, he would protect HIS woman with every breathe he takes.
Thus begins the game of hide and seek where Juliana and Ashe barely manage to get rid of one group of assassins to run into another, all tasked with the mission of taking Juliana with them. Their grudge is not with Ashe and when he stands in their way to the ultimate prize, all bets are off and Rhyannon gives readers enough fist fights, blood and gore to keep the action alive throughout. With his senses heightened by the danger that surrounds them both, Deadl finds that it is an impossibility for him to keep his hands off of Juliana and he embarks on kids mission to quench his thirst for his kisz convict, all the while thinking that he would be able to walk away, when all is said and done.
For me, he was real, he tye exactly how I envisioned him to be. Ashe is a vampire who has been cheated on by the one woman he trusted and as they thf, once bitten twice shy. And for someone like Ashe who works tirelessly in enforcing the law amongst vampires, falling for someone who is nothing more than a convict in his eyes sends him into a whirlpool of conflicting emotions.
Ashe fights it all, and oh does he fight, but the fiercest battle of all is one which he wages with himself, torn between the Burning he feels for Juliana and his need to walk away with his emotions intact. I loved Ashe from his delicious and mouthwatering physical form to what he was deep inside. His desire and need for Juliana is a wondrous thing, it is an all encompassing one that refuses to back down, especially with Juliana within arms reach. Juliana Sabin is a heroine who I fell in love with right from the very start.
And in her own way, Juliana does what she does with the noble intention of rhyannkn the man who means far too much to her than anyone else has in her life. Juliana knows that by giving up her body to a man who plays her like a master would be akin to edadly when she has to walk away from him when the danger is finally no bydd.
Though the thought of leaving Ashe leaves her reeling, I loved Juliana because she deadlly her chance to indulge with Ashe wholeheartedly and gives herself up to him with everything she has to give. The one thing you can always count on in novels by Rhyannon is that thread of scorching sensuality and heat that is abundantly deadl throughout the story.
There were times when my e-reader practically singed my fingertips for the amount of heat that Ashe and Juliana generates, their desire for one another the stuff that happily ever afters are made of. Kudos to another book that kept me entertained, made me hum in all the right places and gave me a reason to smile when all was said and done!
And as a reader, there is nothing more you can ask for! Jan 27, Michelle Leah Olson rated it it was amazing Shelves: Our Review [by Michelle L. Primal Instinct is one of my favorite series, but this spin-off installment was by far my favorite book yet. Boy was that an understatement. Deadly is the Kiss throws Ashe and Juliana together under unusual circumstances and forces them to confront the undeniable attraction they have had for one another since they met back in the Wasteland.
With danger lurking around every corner the story is a non-stop adrenaline rush and keeps the characters and the reader on alert and hypersensitive, which makes for some amazing moments. Ashe is everything you want in an alpha male — gorgeous, strong, deadly, protective, stubborn, and take no prisoners.
He can be intimidating, and I wanted to smack him a few times for so vehemently denying his feelings for Juliana and then turning around and using them and her obvious attraction to him to taunt or blackmail her, but all of it together made him what I always knew he was but found out in spades in this book… SEXY AS SIN.
Together, they are dynamite. Her Primal Instinct world has always been ingenious, but there was something about the set up of this book and the additional treasures she provided for us readers. I was captivated throughout. I whole heartedly recommend this to all Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Vampire, Shifter and all around Fantasy readers who want a grab you by the seat and not let go read. While this book can be read as a stand alone I would highly recommend reading the books in the Primal Instinct series beforehand to get the history and get properly introduced to Ashe in all of his glory.
Oct 07, Melanie rated it it was ok Shelves: Having read the ‘Primal Instincts’ books, I would say that some of those weren’t great, some were just plain ok and a couple were actually pretty good it’s those good few that had me keep going backbut I think at this point I’m just going to say I’m D-O-N-E done.
I actually quite like the premise of Byrd’s ‘Primal Instincts’ world – lots of different paranormal characters, some we’ve heard of like werewolves and vampires, some we haven’t such as Merrick’s; cranky yet hot alpha males and generally tough, can-take-care-of-themselves heroines set against a backdrop struggle between good and evil – BUT the execution of said world just doesn’t measure up to other amazing paranormal series out there.
In fact, the only thing Byrd consistently delivers on is HOT SEXbut, alas, even that promise gets old after awhile – I’d like some well-done plot mixed in with the raunchy sex scenes please. Juliana has begun the “burning” kiss Ashe ie – they’re matesbut Ashe denies his need and her importance because she and her family are criminals living in exile.
Juliana is forced to seek Ashe out, however, to clear her family’s name and he, of course, agrees to help her IF she has sex with him – because, ths, that will ease the “burning”. Throughout much of the book, we’re treated to Ashe’s trust issues and bad attitude, towards Juliana and the situation, and Juliana’s inability to stay out of trouble and do what she’s told – yet they just can’t seem to keep their hands off each other.
Nothing new or novel there. Not surprisingly, the trust issues miraculously disappear once Juliana lets loose the whole tragic truth about the reason for exile. Ashe has got a hot brother, Gideon, so I’m guessing that the next book is probably going to be about him, but, as I’m officially “done”: This review was posted at Under The Covers I have mixed feelings about this book.
First of all I was under the impression this was a new series, my mistake, and I’m not up to date with the Primal series by Ms. Some people are saying it’s a spin off, some people are saying it’s a continuation of the series, however if you haven’t read the rest of the Primal Instincts series it might not work as well for you as rhgannon should. I might’ve been a little lost starting out. I feel that maybe my feelin This review was posted at Under The Covers I have mixed feelings about this book.
I feel that maybe my feelings would be a lot different if I had that background. However, I had an immediate crush on the hero of this story. Ashe is very alpha and very hot, protective, intelligent and doesn’t fight the way things are going for him and Juliana. He knew Juliana was his mate even before they get thrown in a situation in this book, but figured he could stay away from her. But Juliana was just ok for me, not great not bad, just your average heroine that has some TSTL moments but that has a bit of a tortured past so you can’t help but feel bad for her.
The actual story had a lot of potential. Juliana just escaped prison and is seeking Ashe’s help to protect her family after her and the rest of the members of her family had assassination orders taken out on. Ashe is really her only hope. He’s a sort of an enforcer or cop, so he wars with his instincts of doing what’s right and bringing her in, or helping her. The catalyst there being the fact that he knows she’s his mate and have already started The Burning. They spent a lot more time dealing with the sexual issues they had, and taking care of them they did, than actually dealing with the assassination attempts and the people that were after them.
All the dirty work seemed at times to be behind the scenes. Now that is not a major concern but in my opinion the parts I enjoyed the most about the book where “under the covers”. I do enjoy the world that Ms. I’ve enjoyed it in the past and this was no different, the writing was also great. Now I just have to go back to finish reading her Primal Instincts series so I’m up to date!
